Free: included for every learner

The free voice is available to every learner, no subscription required. Where Epivo has its own on-device voice for your language, it downloads once and then runs locally, sounding noticeably more natural than a typical built-in phone voice. Where it does not, your device's own built-in text-to-speech engine speaks instead.

  • How it works: Epivo tries its own on-device voice first, and falls back to your device's built-in voice when there is no Epivo voice for that language, or while one is still downloading

You don't need to do anything to get the free voice. The one-time download for a language is roughly 20-115 MB depending on the voice, so it is worth doing on Wi-Fi.

Premium: studio-quality voices from ElevenLabs

Premium voices use ElevenLabs, a leading voice synthesis service. These are the most lifelike voices in Epivo.

  • Cost: Included on every plan, as an allowance. 1 hour in total on the Free plan; a budget that refills each week on Mini and Max
  • Quality: Studio-quality, highly expressive, and the closest to a real human voice
  • How it works: Speech is generated in the cloud and streamed to your device

Which tier should I use?

You don't choose a tier — Epivo uses the Premium voice while you have Premium voice time left, and the free voice once it runs out.

You can hear the Premium voice on the Free plan during your first hour of Premium voice time. On Mini and Max that allowance comes back every week, so the Premium voice is what you hear for most of your learning.

The free voice is a good experience in its own right — clear, natural, and generated on your device wherever Epivo has its own voice for your language.

Frequently asked questions

Can I switch between voice tiers?
Not directly. Premium voices are tied to teacher personas, and the **Teachers** row appears in Menu → Preferences whenever your session is currently using a Premium voice. When your Premium voice time runs out, Epivo moves you to the free voice by itself — there is nothing to switch.
Does the free voice use mobile data?
The first time Epivo needs its own on-device voice for your language, the download is roughly 20-115 MB depending on the voice — worth doing on Wi-Fi. After that the voice runs on your device. Sessions always need an internet connection for speech recognition and the tutor's replies, whichever voice you are on.
